  • Distress and Color!

Coloring an image that represents something to me. The image I choose has to be vibrant but simple to distress

    Why I chose this image?

The image I chose to color was the blank eye with a rose within it. I chose this one because its very similar to this eye design on one of my favorite characters whilst having a unique symbol in the center. I feel as if the rose represents more of me instead of the star because I love romance and adore how it influences the world. I believe romance increases happiness and spiritually makes a person complete. I also like the symbolism of butterflies and mini stars around the eye to give a softer but dynamic feel to the image.

    Does the colors have significance?

The colors I chose were heavily inspired from the character names AI’s color pallet. I feel like the abundance of blues, pinks and reds applies well to the romance perspective I’m aiming for. The purple is applied throughout the eye instead of inside it. The rose being multiple colors adds different emotions within one image which is what romance does to one person. The bright colors makes an emphasis on the eye using the dominance concept, whilst also adding a flowery atmosphere.

    Overall Inspiration

The overall aesthetic comes from the character AI being an Idol. The concept of an idol is to be a vibrant and bright figure that performs to fill a void within an audience. The abundance of colors draws attention to an idol and diversifies them from any other performer. The sole eye with a rose gives a helpless romantic feel as that’s how I perceive an idol feels. The solo performer going to make others happy must be lonely as I think love in return from the audience or a singular person can return the vibrance outsourced from the idol.

  • Intro To Design Summary

    Introduction

Intro to design expanded ideas that I had in my previous summary. I evolved my critical thinking skills and went beyond simple observation. As I explain what was added and what was confusing, I will also explain how these new concepts could be used in my future works

    1. What did I learn?

What I learned from this section was to be more thoughtful when observing different pieces of art or photos beyond my own art. I learned to dissect different images concept by concept to create pieces to an understanding of what is being composed. What I also learned is how to compile information without clutter to spread a message without oversaturation.

    2. What was tedious?

The most tedious part of this introduction was the multi-staged design assignment. I felt like storytelling for a simple task is redundant if expansion is not plausible. I also felt like the requirement of outside sources to my own individual media created removes the ability to creative freedom as I have to consider similar medias to the story I am trying to portray. I feel like such restriction also can confuse whoever observes what I post or present.

    3. What was the easiest for me?

The easiest section was the design blitz as organizing thoughts with the grid method previously mentioned by the Vignelli Canon booklet helped me understand the minimalist and dominance concepts as it was presented in the booklet by example. The large paragraphs next to a singular image represented it and I realized such as my focus pertained to understanding examples instead of reading the information. Taking those concepts and applying it to the images I captures enhance my understanding.

    4. What gave me frustration?

What gave me the most frustration is trying to understand the Vignelli Canon beyond the information being presented. I approached it initially as just information for an assignment. As I read more and was challenged by the instructions to think deeper and how to apply said concepts to my own work was hard. Putting my comprehension of art concepts into words was frustrating but interesting. Writing my thoughts without the habit of clutter was also frustrating to do.

    5. What was most enjoyable?

The most enjoyable section was definitely the Design Blitz as I enjoyed finding multiple concepts within images but choosing one that stands out the most. I loved taking pictures with no idea how to describe them and taking my critical thinking skills to add concepts to the taken images. Connecting with my art instead of mindlessly taking them.
