Album Mashup – Michael Jackson Thriller (4 Stars)

I did a mashup of Michael Jacksons songs ‘Wanna Be Startin Somethin’ and ‘Billie Jean’ because of the similar tempos of the songs and the overall groove matches in my opinion.

Soundtrack of my life – Love, Reflection, and Release (2 Stars)

This playlist is a representation of my life as I have struggled with understanding love and connection through the struggling relationships I have been through. Some of the songs reflect on my positive experiences, but also some of my hard heartbreaks from people I felt like I was really connected to. Another portion of songs reflects on my struggle with materialistic addictions and having a disconnect in relationships with my friends and family, as I saw these temporary things as an escape for my deep-rooted pain I didn’t resolve. Specifically, the absence of a parent affected me, and it is prevalent through the song ‘Answer,’ where I used the escape of material and short-term satisfaction to ignore these feelings. Songs like ‘I Can’t Help It,’ ‘U,’ and ‘Beat It’ describe my moments of reflection on not being a pushover, reflecting on myself and what I can improve upon, and then even aspects I can’t control that I have to let go. ‘End of the Road’ and ‘It’s My Party (I’ll Die If I Want To)’ describe my conclusions of letting go and living freely, but also that some things must come to an end; finding comfort in conclusions, even if I don’t want them, gives me closure.

    My Breaking News (3 Stars)

The city’s skyline received a vibrant new addition this morning as the highly anticipated “Canal Walk Kinetic Sculpture,” a massive, wind-powered art installation designed by local students and engineers, officially began its full rotation at the turning basin of the James River.

The project, which has been in development for over two years, features a series of interconnected, stainless-steel sails that harness the river’s steady breeze. As the sculpture moves, it generates enough clean energy to power the ambient LED lighting that will illuminate the canal path throughout the evening.

“It’s not just a sculpture; it’s a living piece of infrastructure,” said Sarah Jenkins, the project’s lead designer. “Watching it catch the light against the backdrop of the city while knowing it’s helping sustain the park is exactly what we hoped for.”

City officials gathered at the waterfront at 9:00 a.m. to witness the official “activation,” which was met with cheers from a crowd of commuters and residents who had stopped to watch the sails catch their first real gust of wind. To celebrate the installation, the Richmond Parks and Recreation Department has announced that the section of the canal will host a free “Evening Glow” event this Saturday, featuring local food trucks and music to showcase the new light display.

The installation is expected to become a new landmark for the downtown area, blending the city’s historical canal roots with its growing reputation for public art and sustainability. Visitors are encouraged to walk the basin path this weekend to see the sculpture in action.

  • Modern Love: My Husband’s Breakdown Was My Breakthrough

    Insight

After reading the article “My Husband’s Breakdown Was My Breakthrough” from the Modern Love adaptation in the New York Times, I feel like I got insight on a dependency factor that can exist in a relationship.

    Summary: Tragic Love Story

The story is told by Anna Martin who is the wife in this love story, and she is speaking to her guest Stefanie Golden. Anna talks with Stefanie about her marriage with her husband d her thought process through a time where he is going through a depressive period. She describes always being aware of his depression but the shock of him wanting hospitalization and rehab to help facilitate the depression put her in a position of depression herself and had her understand her emotions and life position in a different light. This retelling of Anna and her husbands situation highlights the complexities in marriage as the levels of support, the painful processes of both partners not being available, and prioritization of oneself can effect a partner mentality and availability in a relationship.

    Style and Perspective

The style the story was told in was innovative and very engaging. The way she uses her tone to express tension, the weight in her voice to convey emotion, and even the pacing in how she tells her story with her husband, gives me a point of view like I was there, while also telling a story I can immerse myself in outside the overall story. The retelling didn’t feel like an interview, but more felt like a venting session between two best friends with how vulnerable she was with using emotion when Anna talked. The producers, I can tell, used quiet moments and raised the pitch and volume of Anna’s speech when she used more emotion or seemed to describe her thoughts, to create impact on what she’s saying and to leave the audience indulged with the weight of the space between sentences. The sequential methods described in my recent post were used in this story session, which kept me engaged, such as the momentum method. I also appreciated the use of music—not overwhelming the story, but adding emotional depth to her vocal changes while she described her difficulties with finding a balance between worrying for her husband while keeping mental peace to not also fall into depression. The audio slowing or speeding up was effective with her stressed and reflection periods. The conclusion on her pursuing her needs and what’s necessary to keep her peace was beautifully realized, and the changes in narrative choices were very impactful when describing what happened with their marriage.
