    What are these photos?

I did a challenge where I took photos of different things within a 15-minute period to represent different prompts as well as I can. I documented when I start and ended with all the photos with descriptions in between.

    How I feel (reflection)

I took all of these photos at my house to make the challenge extremely difficult and I felt like it would be more interesting to find perspectives with personalized objects. The 15-minute challenge was stressful as finding what can fit a prompt and how I could explain it gave me anxiety but after completion I felt relief. With this challenge, some photos fit perfectly and gave good representation whilst others aren’t the best as I was limiting creativity with time. On that note the best photos were the leading door photo and the complexity photo. I feel like those came with a lot of thought and represented the prompts well with how detailed they are. Even though those are my best in my perspective, I’d say I got really creative and inventive with the inanimate to real object photo as it took some editing and creative insight to come to my conclusion about the photo.

  • Beyond The Click

    Finding immersion

Photography is more immersive and interesting besides the shutter, click, and save of a photo. Photography can capture memories and tell a whole story from looking at five photos to even just one photo. Starting with the concept of creating depth with the photo by capturing contrast , dimensionality, and foreground objects to encapsulate a context to the story around the main focus of the photo. Capturing balance in the photo can add to this depth by giving layers giving a 3-dimensional illusion that extends the visual weight without actually adding anything to the scene. This can be done by using various different lighting scenes, getting the right amount of space in the frame, or adding focus to background objects.

    Light creates new a vision

Light plays a huge part in how a photo is taken and how it is perceived. Time of day is a contributor as the general atmosphere can not only tell a story on the context of the photo, but it can also convey an emotion as for example, nighttime can represent introspection and vulnerability as the dark atmosphere highlights the focus object or person being ingulfed in the dark. Adding shadows to a light atmosphere add depth and emphasis on the object or person it stems from. It gives volume to the scene and adds to the photo without putting additional objects within the space. Even as little as light direction and the positioning of the shot can change the lighting patterns and the effect of the lighting because of the different perspectives it can show within the photo.

    Visual storytelling

From what I learned, visual storytelling can be controlled and change with every aspect of a photo. Using visual storytelling is a good way to convey emotions and express complex narratives with a single photo. It creates time to process a moment or a frame beyond what the human eye can capture because the moment passes. Using time to feel and process the photo is valuable as you can imagine a story or what happened using the context in the photo. I have now learned photography does not have rules to it and its a creative art form as it gives opportunity for the photographer to be an author and narrator. As the visual mass and the interesting focus come to your attention with the photo, imagery becomes more powerful than any video or moment experienced as you can build an emotional connection to the photo.
